Boy, what a long day this was! I woke up at 3:30AM this morning and got dressed and into the car half awake. I then semi-slept until 6, when we stopped at a gas station and Mom doled out breakfast (powdered sugar donuts!) on fancy china (napkins!) as we sat in the car. At 10:00 central time we arrived at New Mexico.
We made it to the caverns at 11:00ish (10:00ish mountain time) and took pictures in front of the sign. I couldn't get a good picture of the massive ants around there, but they are about 3/4 of a centimeter long and probably extremely painful if you get bitten. Here is the picture I took of the sign. Notice the background of the mountains.
After we made it to the cave entrance, I left my phone in the car. The light was so low in the cave I couldn't have taken any good pictures anyways. However, I did take some pictures with my nice camera and I will try to get those to you as soon as possible. The cave was amazing. There were stalagmites and stalagmites everywhere. The formations were strange and unlike anything I'd ever seen before. We drank Gatorade and used the restroom 750 feet below the surface. It was awesome! The cave was frigid. It was so cold, by the time we were done my hands were almost numb. We walked the way down but we took the elevator 750 feet back up into the restaurant at the top. I ordered chicken quesadillas, and they tasted so good I ate all 3 of the humongous cheesy tortillas.
After all of that, we went to Roswell, New Mexico. There was supposedly an alien sighing there a while ago and they built a museum and a bunch of shops. It's almost as if their entire economy is built off of some myth about aliens. Anyways, we went into the museum and looked around in the gift shop, and looked in a couple other gift shops outside. However, we didn't find anything we wanted to spend money on so we packed up and headed to the hotel.
So here I am, sitting in the hotel, blogging to you. I think we're going to go swimming soon. I'll get back to you later tonight, I hope.
